Overview
The second edition of Pakistan Super League Twenty20 begins at the Dubai International Stadium on 9 February with defending champions Islamabad United taking on Peshawar Zalmi and will conclude at Lahore on 17 March.
A total of five teams, which also includes last year's finalists Guetta Gladiators, Karachi Kings and Lahore Qalandars, play 24 matches across 21 days. Each team will play a double-legged round robin group stage and the top-four will progress to the play-offs, which will see battle between first and second-placed teams and also the third and fourth-placed teams.
PSL, this year, has three foreign captains - Kumar Sangakkara (Karachi), Brendon McCullum (Lahore) and Darren Sammy (Peshawar) along with Pakistan internationals Misbah-ul-Haq (Islamabad) and Sarfraz Ahmed (Quetta). Islamabad are among the strongest outfits on paper with the likes of Shane Watson, Sam Billings, Sharjeel Khan, Samuel Badree and Saeed Ajmal in their ranks.
Chris Gayle's presence makes Karachi a unit to watch out for while McCullum's Lahore has the likes of Yasir Shah, Umar Akmal, Jason Roy and James Franklin. Shahid Afridi will ply his trade with Peshawar along with Mohammad Hafeez, Shakib Al Hasan, Eoin Morgan, Tillakaratne Dilshan and Wahab Riaz.
