Djokovic starts the tie as the overwhelming favourite to reach the last-16 stage in Paris. The world number two, who had had trouble on producing the right results on both the hard court and the European clay, hit form when he reached the final of last month's Rome Masters, only to lose to Alexander Zverev. The Serb would have taken of confidence from the performance, which also saw him reach the title match of the tournament only for the second time in 2017 after his title-winning campaign in season-opening Doha tournament.

After parting ways with his entire coaching team, Djokovic partnered with Andre Agassi in a bid to get back to the top of the world rankings. The 30-year-old has looked confident over the first two round in Paris and he needs to maintain his consistency if he is to battle against odds and defend the French Open title.

Having beaten Schwartzman in their only meeting at 2014 US Open, Djokovic should have little trouble in dispatching off the Argentine. who faced a first-round exit in Rome, months after impressing on the dirt with a quarter-final appearance at Monte Carlo Masters.
