Overview
New Zealand host Pakistan in the final Test of the two-match series in Hamilton from 25 November. The visitors, after having successful tours in England and in the United Arab Emirates against West Indies, were blown away by the hosts in Christchurch inside three days.
The Pakistan batsmen, who found themselves quite comfortable in testing condition in England, surrendered to the swing bowling exploits of New Zealand pace battery, led by Trent Boult and debutant Colin de Grandhomme. The result was an eight-wicket win to Kane Williamson and men, who successfully bounced back after 3-0 whitewash in India last month.
Pakistan pacers were also effective with Mohammad Amir, Sohail Khan and Rahat Ali getting amongst the wickets but there was very little to defend in the fourth and final innings of the first Test.
With a quality pace attack and leg-spinner Yasir Shah, who might find assistance from the Seddon Park track, at their disposal, a better show with the bat will help Pakistan stage a comeback. However, they will not have their skipper Misbah-ul-Haq in Hamilton, as he has been banned for slow over rate in the first Test.
The onus will now fall on stand-in skipper Azhar Ali, Younis Khan and Sarfraz Ahmed to deliver the goods with the bat. Sharjeel Khan is likely to come in to the line-up to replace Misbah.
On the other hand, New Zealand, who will look to clinch the series, will be without in-form pacer Trent Boult, who has been ruled out due to knee injury. They will be bolstered by the inclusion of all-rounder Mitchell Santner, who missed the Christchurch Test after impressive showings in India.
Debutant Jeet Raval will look to amass more runs and will look for support from experienced campaigners Kane Williamson and Ross Taylor.
With another green track and overcast conditions on offer, batsmen from both teams need to step up to prevent pacers creating havoc.
