Bangladesh have not had a good start to the three-match ODI series. They were sloppy in the field and let Tom Latham and Colin Munro, who stiched a 158-run stand, slip away with the game. Shakib Al Hasan was impressive with both bat and the ball but he hardly had any support in either departments. So was Mosaddek Hossain, who was economical and contributed with a quickfire 50.
Latham is the clear contender for the Man of the Match for his 121-ball 137, which was also the first ton by a New Zealand batsmen at Hagley Oval. Kane Williamson will be a happy man especially after a string of series loses.
On the other hand, Bangladesh's top-order needs to stand up and make use of the batting-frienldy conditions more. They will learn and they will try and better their Christchurch performance when they go to Nelson on 29 December.

1:55pm SGT: OUT! Southee cleans up Mustafizur for 0. Mushfiqur cannot come and bat again and that is it for Bangladesh. New Zealand win the first ODI by 77 runs. BAN 264/9 in 44.5 overs.
1:54pm SGT: Mosaddek gets to his maiden ODI fifty. He is smashing Southee all over the park. 12 runs already in this over with a six and a four.
Mustafizur Rahman comes to join Mossadek.
1:45pm SGT: OUT! Taskin Ahmed's struggle comes an end (2 off 11 balls). Southee bowled a maiden at him and the pressure was getting to his nerves. Lockie Ferguson reaps the reward after bowling two continous dot balls. BAN 256/8 in 44 overs.
1:39pm SGT: OUT! Mortaza is gone for 14 from 10 balls. Santner follows Mortaza, who tried to give himself room. The skipper ends up giving a catch at deep midwicket. BAN 242/7 in 41.2 overs.
1:38pm SGT: 9 runs of Southee's over. Mortaza has joined the action with Mosaddek. Bangladesh still need a 100 from 9 overs with four wickets in hand. Can Mushfiqur bat again? It remains to be seen. BAN 242/6 in 41 overs.
1:30pm SGT: Bangladesh reach 233 at the end of 40 overs. Mushfiqur, who had stiched a 50-run stand with Mosaddek, retired hurt on 42 after struggling with cramps. Skipper Mashrafe Mortaza has joined Mosaddek, who is doing the bulk of the scoring at the moment (35 from 34 balls).
Will Mushfiqur's injury hurt Bangladesh a lot? A lot depends on Mosaddek now. BAN 234/6 in 40 overs.
1:12pm SGT: Bangladesh have crossed the 200-run mark here. Mushfiqur has joined Mosaddek and is now attacking Boult. These two have stitched a quick 39-run stand that has come in just 31 balls. BAN 206/6 in 36 overs.
1:08pm SGT: Mosaddek is looking positive here. In the 14 balls he has faced so far, he has already got a six and a boundary. Bangladesh should try to play their full 50-over quota to see where it takes them. Mushfiqur is key here. BAN 192/6 in 34 overs.
Mossaddek Hossain joins Mushfiqur Rahim at the middle. Bangladesh need 167 runs from 18 overs with four wickets in hand.
1pm SGT: OUT! Another short ball for Lockie and another wicket falls. This time it Sabbir Rahman who has given his wicket away the ball after hitting a six. He guided a short one to the third man, who dived forward to complete a good catch. Tail-enders to come in now. BAN 175/6 in 32 overs.
12:50pm SGT: Kane Williamson has been handling his bowlers well. Just after he got Shakib, Neesham was introduced into the attack. Santner and Neehsam are now bolwing in tandem. BAN 159/5 in 30 overs as drinks has been taken.
Sabbir Rahman has come out at number seven for Bangladesh. They still need 194 runs from 22 overs.
12:40pm IST: OUT! Huge wicket for New Zealand! Shakib falls shortly after getting to his fifty. Lockie Ferguson was smashed for a huge six the ball before he got the left-hander with a short ball. Shakib had played the short ball well but on this ocassion he falls (59 off 54 balls). BAN 148/5 in 28 overs.
12:31pm IST: Shakib, who has scored 48 from 48 balls, is getting along nicely here. A huge six in Lockie Ferguson's over there. Bangladesh picked up 10 runs from that over. BAN 128/4 in 26 overs.
12:26pm IST: We are at the halfway mark of the second innings now. Good comeback from Santner there as he concedes only two runs in the over. Shakib and Mushfiqur have stitched a 33-run stand now. They need to keep going for Bangladesh to stay alive. BAN 118/4 in 25 overs.
12:23pm IST: Another good over for Bangladesh. Shakib is pressing the accelarator here. Two boundaries for the left-hander in Southee's over. BAN 116/4 in 24 overs.
12:20pm IST: Both Skakib and Mushfiqur are targetting the spinner rightaway. It makes sense as Bangladesh batsmen have the ability to play well against spin. 11 runs came off Santner's first over. BAN 107/4 in 23 overs.

12:14pm SGT: Good over for Bangladesh, nine runs off it. Shakib played a beautiful cut off Southee to get a boundary in that over. BAN 96/4 in 22 overs.
12:10pm SGT: 1 run off the 21st over. Boult, who has just completed his seventh over, has kept Mushfiqur quiet. BAN 87/4 in 21 overs.
12:00pm SGT: End of the 20th over. Neesham has completed five overs and he has taken three to dent Bangladesh's chances. Mushfiqur has just joined Shakib, who is on 14 from 22 balls. Sabbir Rahman is still there after this pair but Bangladesh need a big partnership very soon. BAN 86/4 in 20 overs.

11:55am SGT: OUT! Another one for Neesham. This time, it is the big man Tamim. The ball was pitched wide and the left-hander slashed hard. Santner at deep point does no mistake. It is crumbling down for Bangladesh. BAN 81/4 in 18 overs.
11:45am SGT: Shakib and Tamim are trying to consolidate here. They have to stich a big one here for Bangladesh to have any chances of getting close to the target. BAN 73/3 in 17 overs.
11:30am SGT: Things have considerably slowed down for Bangladesh here. Tamim is defending everything he is seeing right now and it is the right way to go. His partnership now with Shakib will have big effect on this match. BAN 58/3 in 14 overs.
11:18am SGT: OUT! Bangladesh in a spot of bother! Jimmy Neesham strikes twice in the same over. Soumya Sarkar and Mahmudullah walk back to the pavillion in a span of four balls. The former ended up chipping one to Williamson at mid off while the latter edged a wide one to wicketkeeper Luke Ronchi. Sarkar scored 8 while Mahmudullah failed to trouble the scorers. BAN 48/3 in 12 overs.
It was all going good for Bangladesh but now they will face an uphill task. Shakib Al Hasan is the new man in.
11:15am SGT: Lockie Feguson is keeping it tight. He has conceded only four runs from his two overs. Tamim is hanging out there, 22 off 39 balls. BAN 48/1 in 11 overs.
11:10am SGT: 10 overs up in the second innings and Southee, the wicket taker, has bowled five of them. Tamim and Kayes were going along nicely before Southee removed the latter with a short ball. Sarkar and Tamim have added nine runs since then. Bangladesh need a big partnership between these two to get going. BAN 43/1 in 10 overs.
Soumya Sarkar comes in at number three. And Lockie Ferguson into the attack. Bangladesh should be wary of his pace.
11am SGT: OUT! Imrul Kayes falls for a short ball. Southee gets the wicket for New Zealand. Tested the batsman with another short one. This time, the left-hander nicks it to the keeper. He reviews it but the hotpost shows a thick edge off the glove. Bangaldesh did well so far but the veteran pacer strikers. BAN 34/1 in 8 overs.
10:55am SGT: Four! Kayes scores a boundary off Southee. Another short ball, another pull and Mitchell Santner almost pulled off a blinder at deep midwicket. BAN 34/0 in 7.2 overs.
Southee continues. Kane Williamson is persisting here with his lead bowlers. Bangaldesh have done well so far to not to throw away a wicket to either Boult or Southee.
10:54am SGT: New Zealand have tried bowling short balls and Bangladesh batsmen have been able to score runs off them. Tamim got a boundary against Boult in the seventh over after Southee bowled a maiden at Kayes. BAN 30/0 in 7 overs.
10:45am SGT: Steady start this from Bangladesh. Both Kayes and Tamim are waiting for good opportunities to attack. New Zealand have grassed a catch. We will have to wait and see if it is going to hurt them. BAN 26/0 in 5 overs.
10:35am SGT: Looks like Imrul Kayes is not going to hold back here. He has hit a six and a boundary off Southee in that over. Bangladesh are up and running. It is 14/0 in 2 overs.

10:30am SGT: Tamim Iqbal hooked one, without much control, in the first over to get Bangladesh off the mark. BAN 4/0 in 1 overs.

10:10am SGT: Join us for the chase in around 20 minutes from here. Bangladesh need 342 to win the first ODI in Christchurch.
10:05am SGT: Can Bangladesh do it? The visitors are eyeing a record run-chase here. Their previous best successful chase was 322 against Scotland in Nelson during the 2015 Cricket World Cup. It will be an uphill task for the Tigers. But given their quench for creating records in the recent past, one should not be surprised if they pull this one off.
Notably, they have got good batting depth as well as Mashrafe Mortaza, their skipper, comes to bat at number 9. A lot depends on how they start their chase. All eyes will be on openers Tamim Iqbal and Imrul Kayes.
9:55am SGT: Innings break! New Zealand make 341/7 in their quota of 50 overs. Tom Latham's second ODI century (137 from 121 balls) has helped the hosts post a solid total on the board. Colin Munro chippped with in with quickfire half-century (87 from 61 balls) as well.
After winning the toss and opting to field first, the Black Caps have made the most of the conditions to give themselves the edge overing the visiting team. Mustafizur Rahman removed Martin Guptill early but Latham kept building small partnerships with Kane Williamson, Niel Broom and Jimmy Neesham, all of whom failed to covert their starts into big ones.
Latham and Munro stitched a 158-run stand for the sixth wicket, that might end up proving match-winning for the hosts. Both Mustafizur and Taskin Ahmed finsihed with two wickets each but the latter was expensive, conceding 70 runs in nine overs. Shakib Al Hasan chipped in with three wickets.

Bangladesh have had tremendous success in the limited-overs format since they stunned England to reach the quarter-final of the 2015 ICC Cricket World Cup. The Tigers have been roaring at home and have defeated the likes of Pakistan, South Africa and India to remain unbeaten for five successive One Day International series until they lost 2-1 to England in October.
However, the real test begins for the Tiger from this Monday when they will play their first overseas match since the 2015 World Cup Down Under. They are up against a New Zealand side that is low on confidence after back-to-back defeats to India and Australia.
Bangladesh have announced a squad of the three-match ODI series with more focus on their quicks. Mustafizur Rahman, who was instrumental in their wins against India and South Africa, is back after a six-month injury layoff. They also have recalled Rubel Hossain, who can form a formidable partnership with skipper Mortaza and Taskin Ahmed.
Shakib Al Hasan has already made his impact by picking up three wickets in the tour game against New Zealand XI, which the Bangladesh team lost by three wickets. Off-spinner Mehedi Hasan Miraz, who decimated England with 19 wickets in two Tests, is likely to make his ODI debut Down Under.
The likes of Tamim Iqbal, Mahmudullah and Mushfiqur Rahim need to step up in testing conditions to show the way for the young batsmen in the team.
On the other hand, Kane Williamson men will be looking to get back to winning ways after a tough last two months. The Black Caps have recalled Neil Bloom and Luke Ronchi in the squad and have the likes of Tim Southee, Trent Boult and Lockie Ferguson to exploit the pacer-friendly conditions.
While New Zealand are the favourites, the fact that they have picked a full-strength squad shows that they are not willing to take the in-form Bangladesh lightly.
