Overview
Myanmar will host Thailand in the second semi-final first leg of the AFF Suzuki Cup 2016 at Yangon on 4 December. The War Elephants have lived up to the expectations in the tournament after being dominant in the group stages. They were tested in their tournament opener by Indonesia but had enough legs to close out the match 4-2 in the dying moments.
Kiatisuk Senamuang's men also came up solid performances in their next two matches, in which they maintained clean sheets. The visitors are looking unbeatable as their top stars have peaked at the right time in the tournament.
Teerasil Dangda, who started his goal-scoring spree against Australia in their World Cup qualifying clash last month, carried his form into the tournament and scored a hat-trick against Indonesia. After having rested for the Philippines game, the Muangthong United forward will be looking to combine with Sirroch Chatthong and make most of the opportunity on Sunday.
Focus will also be on Sarawut Masuk, who has also worked his magic by scoring two late winners so far in the tournament. While Chanathip Songkrasin remains a constant threat for oppositions, Charyl Chappuis was at his best against Philippines and will be looking to add to his Suzuki Cup tally. Thailand though are likely to miss Theerathon Bunmathan, who is fighting against time to recover for the all-important clash.
On the other hand, Gerd Zeise Myanmar will have their job cut out against the ir in-form opposition. They will look to make the most of the home leg before travelling to Bangkok for the reverse fixture on Thursday. "The fans in Myanmar can be intimidating but we (Thailand) are not concerned.
"My players have played in front of big crowds and they are used to it. However, Senamuang is confident that his team will be able to give their best despite playing away from home," Senamuang said, as quoted by the tournament's official website.
