At least 11 people were killed and nearly 50 were injured when a bus rammed into several other vehicles in Indonesia's West Java province on Sunday after a suspected brake failure.
The police said due to the brake malfunction, the tour bus from Jakarta slammed into three cars and four motorbikes before falling into a 10-meter (33-feet) -deep ravine on a kitchen garden. The bus was packed with passengers and the bus driver was among the dead.
Capt. Erik Bangun Prakasa, the local chief of traffic police said the accident at Ciloto village in West Java district of Cianjur, 90 km south of Jakarta, left five people in serious condition and 41 others with minor injuries. Some of the motorists also died.
Transport accidents are quite common in Indonesia due to poor safety standards and infrastructure. Buses and trains are often old and badly maintained.
This latest is the second deadly road accident in the hilly resort region of Puncak during the long weekend holidays. Last week, four people were killed after a tour bus hit several cars and motorbikes.
