Manchester United have confirmed their midfielder James Weir has left the club and completed a switch to Hull City on the deadline day of the summer transfer window.
The 21-year-old came up through the ranks of the club's youth system and was given a chance in the first team by the former Red Devils manager, Louis van Gaal. He made only one senior first team appearance, which came when he came on as a substitute in United's 3-2 victory over Arsenal in the last season at Old Trafford.
Marcus Rashford stole the headlines as his brace helped United beat the north London club. However, Weir's time at Old Trafford came to an end as he has now moved to the KCOM Stadium, having joined Hull on a three-year deal.
Weir follows Will Keane to Hull as the latter joined the Tigers. The duo will be playing under former United assistant manager Mike Phelan, who is the caretaker manager at the club.
"James Weir has joined Hull City from Manchester United in a deadline-day departure, signing a three-year contract with the Tigers," a statement read on United's official website.
"Wednesday night's transfer means Weir has followed his United Under-21s colleague Will Keane in making a permanent switch to Hull, the club where former Reds coach Mike Phelan is the caretaker manager. Everybody at Manchester United wishes James well for the future."
Weir is delighted to have signed for Hull and claims it is an important move in his career.
"It's an important time in my career and I think every player of my age wants to try and start playing regular first team football," Weir told Hull's official website.
"I couldn't be happier to join Hull and really get my career started. The key thing for me is that I can be a regular part of the first team squad here and I hope I can help as the club continues to move forward.''
"I'm just looking forward to cracking on now and getting started here. It will be an exciting time once the international break is over and I can't wait to meet the rest of the lads. I can play in a few positions in midfield, which is a good asset of my game."
