Overview
Malaysia host Papua New Guinea in an international friendly at the Shah Alam Stadium on 14 November.
The Tigers, who are set to announce their final 22-member squad on Tuesday for the 2016 AFF Suzuki Cup, will see Monday's match as their final preparation for the Asean tournament.
There is pressure on coach Ong Kim Swee as the results have not been going Malaysia's way in the recent past. The 2010 Suzuki Cup winners have been winless in their last four outings with their last victory coming against New Caledonia in June.
Malaysia is still searching for replacements for their key stars Safiq Rahim, Aidil Zafuan Abdul Razak, Amirulhadi Zainal and S Kunalan, who retired in July due to the the tussle between the national team and Malaysian league giants Johor Darul Ta'zim. Notably, the Tigers have been winless since then.
Kim Swee will try to test combinations for one final time in Monday's game as a 4-3 win against the U22 national team on Friday would have given him a head start. Injury to midfielder Nasir Basharuddin and Ahmad defender Khuzaimi Piee has also dealt a severe blow to their preparations.
Malaysia will eye for a positive results before they travel to Yangon for their Suzuki Cup campaign, in which they will play Myanmar, Cambodia and Vietnam in Group B. It will be a good test for the Tigers against the PNG unit, who defeated them 2-0 during the Oceania Tour earlier this year.
"It is not easy to play against PNG. Even though they lost [to Iran] the other day, they are a different team now. What is important is for the game that we want to use against Cambodia and the objective is not to focus on PNG," Kim Swee said, as quoted as saying by the Goal.com
On the other hand, PNG, who have had an impressive run in the recent past, would want to get back on track after their disastrous 8-1 loss against Iran on Friday with a good showing in Selangor.
