A Malaysian court has given death sentence to a 29-year-old vegetable seller from Myanmar after he was found guilty of trafficking 1.98kg of cannabis. According to Bernama, Judicial Commissioner Datuk Nordin Hassan sentenced Nur Alam Mohd Hussain to death after the defendant failed to come up with any reasonable doubts against the charges.
Hussain was charged with the offence of trafficking drug at Petronas Service Station in Jalan Kuching, Kuala Lumpur on 17 November and the case was investigated under Section 39B (1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952. The accused was sentenced under Section 39B(2) of the same Act according to which death sentence is mandatory, reported the news website.
It was also reported that during the trial, while the prosecution, led by Deputy Public Prosecutor Ezrene Zakariah, produced five witnesses, the other party, led by K A Ramu, produced four witnesses.
