A woman has been detained by Johor Police after she was suspected of insulting Islam in a post on Facebook. It was reported that the accused allegedly made an offending statement on the social media platform about Muslims' call of prayers (azan).
Reuters reported that the police received a complaint on 20 December and the 26-year-old woman was taken into custody on 22 December, from her residence in Taman Rekamas, Simpang Renggam near Kluang at around 8 pm.
"Acting on the report, police carried out an investigation and traced the owner of the social website account who was suspected of uploading statements that insulted the 'azan' and Islamic religion. This could cause social disharmony," said Johor Police Chief Datuk Seri Wan Ahmad Najmuddin Mohd, according to the news agency. A laptop computer and a mobile phone, belonging o the woman, were also seized, added the police officer.

An investigation under Section 298 of the Penal Code and Section 4(1) of the Sedition Act 1948 is likely to be ordered. The police officer also urged public to refrain from posting anything on social media that could possibly hurt the feeling of people belonging to other religions, reported the news agency.
