A 26-year-old transgender was found dead on her birthday with a gunshot wound and her body mutilated in Malaysia. Shameera Krishnan was born a male but had lived as a woman for the past seven to eight years.
Shameera reportedly had gone out at 3 am on Thursday to buy food. Her cousin V. Reenunair said they were informed that Shameera was seriously injured in an attack in Jalan Pasar at about 4 am. "We didn't know she had died at that time. We went to the mortuary and found that she had been shot in her posterior," Reenunair told The Star when she was met at Tengku Ampuan Afzan Hospital. "Four fingers of her right hand were severed and she had serious head injuries."
Reenunair added: "Her right arm was also badly mutilated as though she had been trying to ward off repeated blows from her assailant."
"Why would anyone want to hurt her like this," she added.
Both Reenunair said Shameera used to work at a florist outlet in Kuantan. They had never complained of anyone disturbing them.
Kuantan OCPD Asst Comm Abdul Aziz Salleh has confirmed the incident and said that the investigations were going on.
On Facebook, Sharan Manthira Naidu, who called herself the victim's aunt, posted: "Funny that her funeral is on her birthday. What a way to celebrate your birthday. I have no more words."
According to reports, Shameera's funeral was scheduled to be held in Karak, Pahang, at around noon on Friday.
