Keppel Data Centres on Monday announced a partnership with the Singapore Internet Exchange Ltd (SGIX) to enhance network connectivity in Singapore.
Keppel Data Centres, a joint venture company between Keppel Telecommunications & Transportation and Keppel Land, said SGIX has set up its point of presence (PoP) within Keppel DC Singapore 1 in Northeast Singapore.
The partnership increases SGIX Internet peering points in Singapore to four, boosting its service coverage across the country, the company said in a regulatory filing.
Customers of Keppel Data Centres that connect to SGIX stand to enjoy reduced latency and lower operating costs from the streamlining of Internet connections, the company said.
They will also benefit from the high-speed extensive global interconnectivity afforded by the international and regional services providers that are currently peered with SGIX, Keppel Data Centres said in a statement.
"Through this partnership with Keppel Data Centres, SGIX will add value to Keppel's existing suite of data centre services while increasing the overall membership base for SGIX," Chairman of SGIX Patrick Scodeller said.
In a bid to achieve Singapore's Smart Nation vision, the upgrading of hosting services and delivery of next-generation data centres were identified as key areas of ICT development by the Info-communications Media Development Authority in 2016.
