Overview
Karachi Kings will look to bounce back from the crushing defeat they suffered in their season-opener against Peshawar Zalmi on Friday. Kumar Sangakkara's team, after being put into bat first, were reeling at 12/4 before Shoib Malik, Ravi Bopara and Kieron Pollard repaired damage and took them to 118.
However, the below-par score was never enough as Peshawar's Eoin Morgan struck a 57-ball 80 to hand his team a seven-wicket win. Chris Gayle, skipper Sangakkara and Babar Azam, who were expected to light up Dubai, perished inside the first five overs, thereby putting huge pressure on the middle-order. Pacers Mohammad Amir, Sohail Khan and left-arm spinner Imad Wasim bowled economical spells but they had little to defend.

Quetta bowlers Zulfiqur Babar, Mohammad Nawaz and Hasan Khan combined well to pick up six wickets between them to bowl out Lahore for just 118. The three left-arm spinners, with their accuracy and deception, are crucial to their chances in the campaign. England import Tymal Mills adds variety to the attack, which is looking complete right now. Also, Karachi need to be at their best against Quetta Gladiators, who are riding high after a strong performance from their bowlers in their opening encounter against Lahore Qalandars. Sarfraz Ahmed's men saw a similar top-order failure as star batsmen Ahmed Shehzad and Kevin Pietersen got out without troubling the scorers much but South African import Rilee Rossouw joined hands with Asad Shafiq to help the team post 136.
While both teams will want their top-order to fire, Quetta will be hoping to do get another win under their belt and make a strong start to their season. The onus will be on their in-form bowling attack, especially Mills to remove Gayle early as the big-hitting star can be ruthless against three left-arm slow bowlers in his opposition camp.
