At least one man died and three people are injured after two near-simultaneous explosions in a Japanese park on Sunday.

A fire department spokesman said the blasts took place at a park in Utsunomiya, around 100 km (60 miles) north of Tokyo, sometime after 11.30 am (0230 GMT).

The cause of the explosions was not immediately clear.

NHK, the state broadcaster, reported that one of the injured people was being treated for shrapnel wounds.

Authorities did not reveal other details about the other two wounded people.

NHK also broadcasted images that showed two burnt out cars in a parking lot about 200 meters (650 feet) from the park.

A charred broken bench was also seen in the footage at the edge of the park, where a folk art festival was underway.

NHK reported that witnesses said they heard a series of loud explosions.

No group has claimed the responsibility yet.
