Police found six dead bodies, including that of a nine-year-old child from a tiny bathroom on 27 December.
After the initial investigation, it was realised that 11 victims were locked in the tiny bathroom by armed robbers. While six died of suffocation, five others, who survived the ordeal, were rushed to the hospital and are critical.
The police claimed that the incident took place on 26 December.
Reuters reported Jakarta police spokesperson Argo Yuwono saying that at least four intruders, with firearms and machetes, broke into the house, which is situated in a posh neighbourhood on Monday.
The buglers threatened and locked family members, including maids and drivers, in the two metre by one metre bathroom. All the members were not found until Tuesday morning, added the police officer.
While petty crimes, like thefts and snatching, are common in Jakarta, violent robbery involving arms and ammunitions are quite rare in the capital city of Indonesia.
