Match: India vs Australia 2nd ODI

Date: 21 September

Time: 1:30pm IST/ 9:00am BST/ 4:00pm SGT

Venue: Eden Gardens, Kolkata

India take on Australia in the second One Day International (ODIs) at Eden Gardens, Kolkata on 21September. The hosts won the first match of the series at MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai on 17 September.

The 2011 World Cup winners won the toss and elected to bat first. The decision did not go in their favour as Ajinkya Rahane was dismissed cheaply for five, while Kohli and Manish Pandey were sent back to the pavilion even before they could open their account.

Opener Rohit Sharma and Kedar Kadhav scored 28 and 40 runs respectively, but failed to develop a partnership, which could have helped India post a decent total. MS Dhoni (79) and Hardik Pandya (83) both took the responsibility for the hosts as their runs down the order helped their side post a total of 281/7 in 50 overs.

Although due to rain, Australia were given a revised target of 164 in 21 overs. However, Steven Smith's side failed to impress with the bat as only Apart from David Warner, Glenn Maxwell and James Faulkner scored double in double digits for the visitors.

As a result, the world champions suffered a 26 runs [D/L method] in the first ODI. Kohli's men have a 1-0 lead in the ODI series and looking forward to their preparation for next match. Australia will be looking to level the series in the second match on Thursday, while India will be keen on continuing their impressive form in Kolkata.

However, both the teams are concerned about the weather in Kolkata, as they had to cancel their practice sessions due to the bad weather in the city. The high voltage match of Thursday could face another troublesome situation because of the rain and if required the over could be reduced like depending on DLS method.
