Overview
India take on England in the third Test of the five-match series in Punjab from 26 November. The hosts broke the English resistance in Visakhapatnam and clinched a mammoth 246-run win to go 1-0 up in the series. Skipper Virat Kohli played two crucial knocks in the match, which included a first innings century, to set the tone for the remainder of the Test.
England batsmen once again found it hard to battle against the Indian spin trio consisting Ravichandran Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja and debutant Jayant Yadav in Visakhapatnam, all of whom impressed.
Chasing 405 in the fourth innings, the visitors' openers Alastair Cook and Haseeb Hameed saw off 50 overs without giving away their wickets. However, the spin trio once again got into action and England suffered a collapse.
The visitors though have made quite a few changes in order to get back to winning ways. Notably, they were 1-0 down during the 2012/13 series before they went on to clinch it 2-1.
Struggling Ben Duckett has been replaced by Jos Buttler, who has reportedly played only one first-class match in the last 12 months. Wicketkeeper-batsman Jonny Bairstow and Moeen Ali will move up the order while all-rounder Chris Woakes will replace an injured Stuart Broad. Left-arm Zafar Ansari is also unavailable and he will be replaced as well by Gareth Batty.
On the other hand, India have replaced injured wicketkeeper Wriddhiman Saha with in-form Parthiv Patel, who played his last Test in August 2008.
The hosts will look to continue with an attack consisting three spinners as the Mohali pitch, which once used to offer assistance to pacers, looks dry and deprived of any grass covering.
England will have to buckle up and put India under pressure soon or have to see the series slipping away from them in Mohali.
