India is celebrating its 71st Independence Day on 15 August 2017, with renewed enthusiasm and patriotic fervour. This day is celebrated all over India with great joy; all Indians remember their national leaders and freedom fighters, who sacrificed their lives to gain independence for the country.
In 1947, 15th August marked the end of India's struggle against British rule and the beginning of a new era for the country. Prime Minister Naredra Modi hoists the national flag at the Red Fort in India's capital city of Delhi.
The flag hoisting is followed by a commemorative speech and the celebrations end with the recital of India's national anthem, the Jana Gana Mana. In this gallery, IBTimes Singapore has compiled a series of images of India's Independence Day.
