Mexicans are all set to celebrate the Day of the Dead highlighting the character of La Catrina created by cartoonist Jose Guadalupe Posada, who is famous for his drawings of typical local, folkloric scenes, socio-political criticism and for his illustrations of "skeletons" or skulls, including La Catrina.
During the annual Catrinas Parade on October 22, thousands of people were seen gathering at the streets of Mexico City dressed as elegant skeletons. Mexican women paraded along Reforma Avenue in Mexico City dressed as Catrina, who is known as the elegant skeleton lady.
Women wore elegant dresses, including some in beautiful wedding dresses, while they painted their faces to resemble a skeleton with feminine touches including flowers and crystals. The revellers were surrounded by marigolds, which is thought to guide the spirit of the dead with its vivid colours and scent. In this gallery, IBTimes Singapore has compiled a series of images of the Catrinas Parade.
