The concentration of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere has reached a record figure in 2016, and as per recent studies, it has reached such a level which has not seen for more than eight million years.
The atmospheric concentration of CO2 reached 403.3 parts per million in 2016, while it was 400.00 ppm in 2015.
Reasons for this increased rise in CO2
Experts believe that the huge rise in the carbon dioxide level is due to adverse human interference on nature, and the recent El Nino activity. El Nino activity intensifies the droughts, thereby weakening the ability of the vegetation to absorb carbon dioxide. According to scientists, the chances of El Nino's occurrence is more when the planet is warmer. Deforestation, rapid growth in population, intensive agriculture and industrialization are other major reasons behind the increased rise in CO2 levels.
The new report is undoubtedly alarming in nature, and it clearly indicates that all our efforts to curb climatic changes are going in vain. The increase in Carbon dioxide level in the atmosphere is expected to raise the sea level by 20 feet and the temperature by three-degree Celsius.
It was in mid-Pliocene era that carbon dioxide levels reached 400 ppm. About 3 to 5 million years ago, the global surface temperatures were 2 to 3 degree Celsius more than today, and as a result of ice melting in Greenland, Western Antarctica, East Antarctica, the sea levels have risen more than 20 meters. If it continues, experts predict the same intensity of ice melting today resulting in a similar rise in sea levels.
Flash floods in Singapore
In the meantime, Singapore, on October 30, witnessed a flash flood due to unexpected rain. Vehicles were seen driving through water in Stamford Road and
Victoria Street. The PUB has issued flooding alerts in areas like Stamford Road,
Victoria Street, Exeter Road, Somerset Road, Tanjong Pagar Road, Craig Road and Leng Kee Road.
Some conspiracy theorists are claiming that the floods in Singapore are the signals of Nibiru's fast approach. They believe that the lone planet which is lurking on the edge of our solar system will make its presence felt soon by triggering natural disasters all across the globe.
David Meade, the Christian numerologist, has recently claimed that the world end has already begun on October 15, and the coming years will be filled with natural disasters like earthquakes, tsunami, flood and volcanic eruption.
