A Chinese woman from Zhoushan city spent over 10,000 yuan (S$2,000) for renting 900 taxis to propose to her boyfriend, the Chinese media reported.
China's Qianjiang Evening News reported that the woman, whose name was not revealed, made the extravagant proposal between 5 pm and 7 pm on March 17. Reportedly, she paid the taxi company to display her proposal on LED lights atop each of the firm's taxis in the city.
The taxis around the city displayed the message: "Zhang Jianfeng I want to marry you" on their top signs for almost two hours. The reports said that Zhang accepted her proposal and later both of them strolled to a park where candles had been prepared and lit. The couple's friends were also present there.
At present, the pair is working in different cities in different cities; the woman is in Ningbo, while Zhang in Zhoushan. Both cities are in China's eastern Zhejiang province, but are an hour and 40 minutes' drive apart.
However, this was not the first time when taxis have been used to send love messages in Zhoushan. Last year in June, a man expressed his love for a woman and proposed her to be his girlfriend through a message on a cab that said: "Every time it rains, I worry about you, Fang Xiaojie. Let's be together!" The message was visible on the cabs for up to 10 days.
