Overview

Chelsea host Liverpool in their Premier League 2016/17 clash at Stamford Bridge on September 16.

The Blues have enjoyed an unbeaten run in the ongoing season so far under their new manager Antonio Conte. They began their campaign in style beating West Ham United at home 2-1 and overpowered Watford and Burnley before dropping two points against Swansea City.

Diego Costa has been the wrecker-in-chief for Conte as the Spanish striker has scored four league goals to propel the side to the second spot in the table. The focus would be on the 27-year-old as he is two yellow cards away from facing suspension.

Meanwhile, David Luiz, who was re-signed by the former Juventus manager on the summer transfer window deadline day, is likely to make his debut for the home side at the Bridge due to the absence of injured John Terry. The England international suffered an ankle injury during Sunday's game against Swansea.

On the other hand, Liverpool look confident after they thrashed Leicester City 4-1 in their last league clash on 10 September. Roberto Firmino scored a brace and Sadio Mane and Adam Lallana added one each as they made light work of the defending champions.

The Reds are currently placed seventh in the Premier League standings with seven points from four games. Despite scoring 14 goals so far, Liverpool have had problems at the back and have conceded seven. They escaped a scare from Arsenal in their season opener beating the Gunners 4-3 away from home.

However, Jurgen Klopp's side suffered a 2-0 defeat against Burnley before being held 1-1 by Tottenham Hotspurs. On Friday, the visitors would be making a bid to stop Chelsea's unbeaten run. The 49-year-old Liverpool boss would love to gain some winning momentum early in the season.
