Chelsea have confirmed their defender Tomas Kalas has joined Fulham on a season-long loan, while midfielder John Swift has left Stamford Bridge on a permanent transfer to join Reading. The 21-year-old Swift's fee will be decided by the independent tribunal.
Kalas joined the west London club in 2011 and was sent out on loan during his time at the club. However, he was given a chance in the first team by Jose Mourinho as he started in Chelsea's clash against Liverpool in April 2014.
The west London club won the match 2-0 and that potential dented Liverpool's chances of winning the title that season.
A statement on Chelsea's official website read, "Tomas Kalas has this evening joined Fulham on a season-long loan. The Czech defender, 23, spent last season with Middlesbrough and returns to the Championship with our west London neighbours.
"Meanwhile, John Swift has joined Reading on a permanent basis. The fee will be decided by an independent tribunal."
Kalas was at Middlesbrough last season and was instrumental in their back four as they sealed promotion to the Premier League. The Czech Republic international is hoping that he can help the Cottagers seal promotion or help them make it to the playoffs.
"Hopefully promotion or at least the playoffs," he explained.
"When I was at Middlesbrough nobody expected us in the playoffs, and after the two seasons Fulham have had, no one expects them to be that high. But why not? After two bad seasons should come the better one."
Lack of first team opportunities at Stamford Bridge saw him search for another club and join them on loan, hoping that he could be included in the plans of his manager at Chelsea. However, Jose Mourinho overlooked at the 23-year-old during his time at the club.
The Portuguese tactician's successor Antonio Conte has also not included Kalas in his plans for the 2015/16 season, which saw him join Fulham on loan.
