Chelsea have confirmed they have re-signed David Luiz from Paris Saint-Germain on 31 August, Wednesday.
The Brazil international left Stamford Bridge and joined the Ligue 1 champions in the summer of 2014. He spent two years at the French capital, where he went on to win two league titles along with other silverware with PSG.
However, Luiz has lost his place in the starting lineup after the arrival of Unai Emery from Sevilla earlier this summer. He replaced Laurent Blanc at Parc des Princes. Chelsea new manager Antonio Conte was keen on strengthening his side's defence and following the addition of Marcus Alonso, the former Juventus manager added Luiz to the heart of the Blues' back four.
The 29-year-old has signed a three year contract with the west London club as he completed his move to Chelsea on the deadline day.
A statement on Chelsea's official website read, "David Luiz is a Chelsea player once more having completed a return to Stamford Bridge following two years at Paris Saint-Germain."
Luiz has expressed his delight after rejoining Chelsea on the final day of the summer transfer window. He has set his sights on winning more silverware at Chelsea, under the guidance of the former Italy coach.
"I'm delighted to return to Chelsea. We had a fantastic story during my first time at the club and I want to help the team and Antonio Conte achieve a lot of success," Luiz told Chelsea's official website.
"I always had a wonderful relationship with the fans and I am looking forward to wearing the blue shirt at Stamford Bridge once again."
Conte now has the option of Luiz, John Terry, Gary Cahill and Kurt Zouma as the four central defenders in the squad at Stamford Bridge.
