Barcelona have confirmed their star forward Neymar has committed his future to the club by signing a new contract on 21 October, which will keep him at the Camp Nou until the summer of 2021.

The Brazil international made a switch to the Catalan club from Santos in 2013, signing a five-year deal. His future with his current employers was uncertain as reports suggested that he was looking for a move away from Luis Enrique's side.

There was speculation surrounding his future earlier in the summer, which was put to rest by the La Liga winners who suggested in July Neyamr had agreed to sign a deal. Neymar will now have a release clause of £167m.

A statement on Barcelona's official website read, "Neymar Jr extended his deal with FC Barcelona on Friday afternoon, putting pen-to-paper on his contract at the club's facilities in the presence of president Josep Maria Bartomeu."

"As the club announced, Neymar has signed a five-year deal which will keep him at Barça until 30 June 2021," it added.

In his time at the club, the former Santos star has won 9 titles and managed 91 goals from 150 appearances in all competitons. He has won the league and the Copa del Rey twice, while also winning the Champions League, the UEFA Super Cup and the Fifa Club World Cup once.

Neymar heaped praise on his teammates and also went on to express his delight after signing a new deal.

"I'm really happy to be renewing my contract with the club. I feel really at home here," the Guardian quoted Neymar as saying.

"Before I came to Barcelona I was obviously already well aware that they were a massive club. The players here are incredible and, from the outside, that intimidated me a bit before I joined. But as soon as I walked into the dressing room it was clear how down to earth they were. I was really struck by that, and it helped me to settle in."
