Arsenal defender Laurent Koscielny has expressed his frustration after the Gunners failed to win silverware in the 2015/16 season.

The north London club were trailing behind their arch-rivals Tottenham Hotspur. However, the latter's defeat to Newcastle United on the final day of the season meant they finished below Arsenal in third spot.

Leicester City won the league in one of the historic moment in sporting history, while the Emirates club finished behind them in the second place.

Arsene Wenger signed Petr Cech from Chelsea last summer and the Czech Republican goalkeeper was Arsenal's only addition before the start of the previous campaign. Koscielny says the club are moving in the right direction and admitted they can reach another level with right additions.

"Yes it's a disappointment. We finished second, but if you look at the whole season, we can have regrets," Koscielny told Omnisport, as quoted by Goal.com.

"I think this year we had the means to compete with the other teams to win this title. But our results were inconsistent, especially in February and March, when we won very few games, and we took very few points.

"It was tough, but we have to keep the positive from this season to learn from it, and start a nice season next year, with probably some new players that will allow us to reach another level and have more consistent results."

Arsenal have triggered Leicester star striker Jamie Vardy's £20m release clause. Koscielny has heaped praise on the England international and he believes Wenger's side will get a natural goalscorer if they manage to land the Foxes frontman.

"Jamie Vardy is hard to play against because he likes to use depth, he's very good at running behind the defence and in front of goal, he doesn't think, he feels the goal, as soon as he can shoot, he does," the France international explained.

"He's proved this season with Leicester than he can be a great striker, and he's scored some goals with England. There will be very good striker during the Euros."
