Overview

Argentina host Colombia in the South American leg of 2018 Fifa World Cup Qualifier at the Estadio San Juan del Bicentenario on 15 November.

The La Albiceleste are heading into the game after their 3-0 defeat against group leaders Brazil on Friday. Goals from Philippe Coutinho, Neymar and Paulinho made sure Tite's team added to Edgardo Bauza's woes.

Argentina, who are grappling with issues with their Football Association, have been struggling to garner confidence with a good show on the pitch. Bauza had done little to inspire the team since he took over from Gerardo Martino after the team's 2016 Copa America defeat.

In the last five World Cup qualifiers, Argentina have won only one and have suffered two defeats. Placed sixth in the group with 16 points from 11 games, Argentina are in danger of missing their berth at Russia 2018 if they do not pull their socks up in their remaining seven games.

The onus will once again fall on Lionel Messi to deliver the goods as the team has not been able to work well as a unit. The likes of Sergio Aguero and Gonzalo Higuain have to pitch in to grab three points in San Juan.

However, Tuesday's opponents Colombia will provide a stern test as they are eyeing to break their two-match winless streak as their last victory came against Paraguay in October.

Jose Pekerman's unit have been able to manage draws against Chile and Uruguay and are placed third in the group behind Brazil and Uruguay. While Carlos Sanchez will be a solid presence in their backline, the team will miss centre-backs Oscar Murillo and Yerry Mina due to suspension and injury, respectively.

With capable forwards of the likes of James Rodriguez and Radamel Falcao in their side, Colombia will be hoping to test the Argentina backline, which succumbed against Brazil last week.
