A shocking picture of the icy dwarf planet Pluto has left scientists and astronomers dumbfounded. The image, which was spotted among several photographs taken by NASA's New Horizon's deep space probe, according to The Express, shows an alien snail crawling on the vast ice desert of the planet.
As expected, alien enthusiasts went bonkers after seeing this bizarre shape. While some conspiracy theorists are convinced that it is an alien creature, Marc D'Antonio, an astronomer and image analyst, says that the image appears that of a snail with a shell on its back and leaving a slimy trail.
However, NASA scientists debunk all extraterrestrial life claims and have a different explanation.
The Express writes that the scientists argue that Pluto is a very geologically active planet, which is covered with frozen nitrogen sea in the interior. This section, due to tremendous pressure acts like liquid. The nitrogen gets pushed to the surface over thousands of years and water ice, being less than frozen nitrogen, forms floating on the nitrogen sea. The scientists go on to say that the object is nothing but a dirty block of water ice drifting on the denser nitrogen.
The deputy lead of the New Horizons Geology, Geophysics and Imaging team, William McKinnon, says: "This part of Pluto is acting like a lava lamp, if you can imagine a lava lamp as wide as, and even deeper than, Hudson Bay."
This is not the first time that an alien –alert is coming from the most distant in our solar system. Scientists at University of Texas at San Antonio and the Southwest Research Institute claimed that due to its rocky core and presence of water molecules, Pluto can be a cradle for alien life.
Moreover, it was also revealed that there can be an ocean beneath the planet's massive-heart shaped region. Even Pluto's moons, especially Charon, contain an ammonia compound which could nourish alien life.
What do you think the object on Pluto is? Are we actually living in denial that alien life exists so close to us?
