Overview
Gujarat Lions and Rising Pune Supergiants are the two new franchises added to the ninth edition of the Indian Premier League. The majority of the star players from these two teams were part of Chennai Super Kings.
CSK and Rajasthan Royals have been handed a two year ban from the IPL and the former's two star players, MS Dhoni and Suresh Raina and leading the Supergiants and the Lions respectively.
Rising Pune Supergiants defeated defending champions Mumbai Indians in the opening match, while Kings XI Punjab suffered a defeat at the hands of Gujarat Lions.
