India failed to make it to the final of the T20 World Cup after they suffered a seven wicket defeat at the hands of West Indies in the second semi-final at the Wankhede Stadium on Thursday.

Shikhar Dhawan was dropped for the last four tie of the tournament and in his place, Ajinkya Rahane partner Rohit Sharma to open India's innings. In addition to this, Manish Pandey came in as a replacement for injured Yuvraj Singh.

MS Dhoni lost the toss and his side were made to bat first. India were given a good start by Sharma and Rahane, who both went on to score 43 and 40 respectively. Virat Kohli was the star player with the bat for India as his unbeaten 89 helped India to post a total of 192 runs, while losing two wickets in the process.

In reply, Jasprit Bumrah managed to get the wicket of Chris Gayle early in the innings. He was dismissed cheaply. Marlon Samuels followed him as Ashis Nehra picked up his wicket in the third over.

It was Lendl Simmons and Johnson Charles' partnership, with a help of two no balls during which the former was dismissed on both occasions helped him to stay until the end. Simmons was later joined by Andre Russell as both remained unbeaten on 82 and 43 respectively to help West Indies reach the final.

Darren Sammy's side will now face England - who defeated New Zealand in the first semi-final - in the final at the Eden Gardens on Sunday.
