Singapore's 2016 GCE A-Level examinations results have been declared on Friday and 92.6 per cent students received at least three Higher 2 (H2) passes, with a pass in General Paper or Knowledge and Inquiry. This has been slightly less than the best result since the curriculum changed in 2006.
In a press release on Friday, the Ministry of Education (MOE) said a total of 12,538 students sat for the examinations last year. But, the performance of the students was little less than the high mark of 93.1 per cent what they achieved in 2015. However, the last year's percentage is slightly better than the 91.4 per cent set by the 2014 batch.
On Thursday, Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong had wished the students on his Facebook page. He urged them to take time to consider their interests and strengths before pursuing them. "Your early 20s are a great time for self discovery and adventure. Remember to stay focussed, motivated, and driven. All the best!" he said.
The ministry said the school students can collect their result slips from their respective schools from 2.30 pm on Friday. However, the private candidates will be notified about their individual results by post.
MOE added that the private students who have SingPass accounts can also get their results online via the internet Examination Results Release System (iERRS) on the Singapore Examinations and Assessment Board's (SEAB) website from 2.30 pm onwards on Friday.
The A-level curriculum was revised in 2006 and the first batch of candidates wrote their examinations in 2007. Since then, the pass percentage has steadily increased with 87.5 per cent of the 2007 cohort achieving a similar standard of passes.
