Overview

Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) returns in 2017 with its first Pay-Per-View (PPV) event at the Barclays Center in New York on Saturday. The event is headlined by the introduction of Featherweight division for women in which Ronda Rousey-slayer Holly Holm takes on Dutch kick-boxing champion Germaine de Randamie.

The fight is one of the most anticipated ones of the year as Holm (10-2) has an opportunity to become the first dual-weight female champion. While Cris Cyborg has been a powerful name in this weight category, the Brazilian was not able to fight the first title match as she was out due to weight-cut related health issues and now a suspension for United States Anti-Doping Agency doping violation.

In her absence, it will De Randamie (6-3), who will challenge the American star. The 32-year-old Dutch star has the upper-hand in the fight as she is coming into the match on a two-match winning streak. On the other hand, Holm has lost steam since her UFC 193 win in December 2015.

Holm went down in two battles in 2016 - against Miesha Tate and Valentina Shevchenko but the champion fighter believes she can get over the rough patch with a win on Saturday. "It has been rough. A lot of people still say 'congratulations on that fight' but in my heart and what I am remembering are my losses. I always want to get better," Holm said, as quoted by The Telegraph.

Anderson Silva seeks to end title drought

Anderson Silva (33-8) has been one of the most dominant forces of the middleweight category and had defended the title for record 10 times at the peak of his career. But the 41-year-old Brazilian legend has not tasted victory in his last five bouts. Seeking to put an end to his title drought, he will take on in-form American fighter Derek Brunson, who stitched a five-match winning streak, which was brought to an end last year, in the co-main event.
