Overview

PSL Inaugural edition runners-up, Quetta Gladiators, would want to finish from where they left last season and they have enough firepower to deliver the right results.

Pakistan opener Ahmed Shehzad's lack of match practise is a concern but apart from that Quetta have a strong batting unit, which has the likes of skipper Sarfraz Ahmad along with Kevin Pietersen, Luke Wright, Asad Shafiq, Mohammad Nawaz and South African import Rilee Rossouw. All-rounder Nathan McCullum and Thisara Perrera are good additions as they will provide the right balance to the team.

In the bowling department all eyes will be on Muhammad Nawaz, who was last-season's third-highest wicket-taker with 13 wickets. On slow surfaces in the UAE, the accurate left-arm spinner will be a handful for any opposition. Also, coach Moin Khan has reportedly spoken highly about another left-arm spinner in the camp - Hasan Khan. England import Tymal Mills, with his pace and deception, is smart buy by Quetta.

On the other hand, Lahore Qalandars, who finished last despite having the likes of Chris Gayle and Mustafizur Rahman last season, have revamped their side completely and are beginning their season under a new captain - Brendon McCullum. While Azhar Ali, Yasir Shah and Umar Akmal form the core group of local players, Lahore have brought in Jason Roy, Grant Elliott and James Franklin to provide the batting impetus.

The addition of off-spinner Sunil Narine will boost the squad and it will be interesting to see how Twenty20 specialist McCullum operates with two of the best modern-day spinners under his disposal.
