Overview
Shuttlers from across the globe are gearing up for the third Grand Prix Gold tournament of the year - Princess Sirivannavari Thailand Masters 2017, starting Wednesday in Bangkok.
However, the field will be without top-10 players in both the Men's and Women's singles category. While India's PV Sindhu and Saina Nehwal, who won the Syed Modi Grand Prix Gold and Malaysia Masters, respectively are not playing in Thailand, Hong Kong's Ng Ka Long, who opened the season with a title in Malaysia is also not featuring in the ongoing tournament.

Thailand though will host quite a few upcoming stars, who have proved their mettle in the recent past. Local shuttler Tanongsak Saensomboonsuk, who won the Denmark Open Superseries last year, is the top seed at the event and is likely to face stiff competition from India stars Sameer Verma, who finished as runners-up at 2016 Hong Kong Open and recently-crowned national champion Sourabh Varma.
After not been able to make a mark in the last two Grand Prix Gold events of the season, Malaysia's hopes will rest on world number 50 Darren Liew. Meanwhile Indonesia have two in-form shuttlers among the top-five seeds - Tommy Sugiarto and Jonathan Christie - to lead their campaign. China's Huang Yuxiang and Qiao Bin are among the favourites to clinch the title as well.
In the Women's singles category, local shuttlers Busanan Ongbumrungpan and Nitchaon Jindapol are the top two seeds while reigning world junior champion Chen Yufei [3] is among the favourites.
Thailand's Bodin Issara and Nipitphon Phuangphuapet are the top seeds in men's doubles, which also has Malaysia's Tan Boon Heong pairing with Indonesia's Hendra Setiawan.
