'At least two Singapore citizens travelled to Syria with their families to join the conflict there alongside the Islamic State jihadists, a minister has revealed.
Senior Minister of State for Home Affairs Desmond Lee said in Parliament at least four Singaporeans were also detained last year, and another one was given a restriction order, Today Online reported.
Hifghlighting the "serious and persistent" terrorism threat in South-East Asia, the minister said stricter border control was required to keep terror at bay.
Lee was answering questions from lawmakers on the steps taken to improve the city state's defence in the aftermath of the January 14 Jakarta attack.
The minister said 'radicalisation' remained a threat to Singapore and that many suspects are being investigated."Most of them were radicalised by online videos and articles, and through social media postings. This problem of self-radicalisation continues to be a concern in Singapore," he said.
The minister said the Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA) will put in place BioScreen process across all checkpoints to record the fingerprints of everyone who enters the country, the report added.
Police will increase patrols and more cameras will be installed across the country, the minister said.
