Overview

Top seed PV Sindhu has lived up to her favourites tag in the ongoing Grand Prix Gold tournament decimating opponents enroute to the title match on Sunday. The Rio Olympic silver medallist has not dropped a set yet in her first international campaign of the new season.

On Saturday, Sindhu demolished her semi-final opponent - fourth-seeded Indonesian teenager Fitriani Fitriani 21-11, 21-19 in just 38 minutes. And the match on Saturday was her longest in the tournament as she took only less than 30 minutes in all her previous rounds.

Sindhu started the year leading her Premier Badminton League team, Chennai Smashers to their first ever title earlier this month. The world number nine outclassed top-ranked opponents of the likes of Sung Ji Hyun and compatriot Saina Nehwal, in the title match. After having a dream 2016, in which she clinched her maiden Olympic medal and Superseries title (China Open), the 21-year-old looks set to clinch her maiden Syed Modi badminton title at home.

The Indian shuttler will be facing Indonesian teenager Gregoria Mariska, who stunned compatriot, sixth seed Hanna Ramadini in straight games (21-19, 21-14) in her semi-final on Saturday.

Gregoria, the two-time Junior World Championship silver medallist, also stunned third seed Beatriz Corrales 21-9, 21-11 in the quarter-final, that lasted just 26 minutes. The 17-year-old has done well to come back from her opening-round exit at the Malaysia Masters earlier this month but she will face an uphill task against Sindhu, who is fast emerging as one of the most dangerous shuttlers in the Women's circuit.
