Overview

S.League giants Tampines Rovers are in good shape after playing a couple of pre-season friendly games in Malaysia earlier this month. Akbar Nawaz's squad drew 2-2 against Terengganu before they lost a close battle against Malaysia Super League side T-Team last Monday.

Despite losing former Liverpool and Arsenal winger Jermaine Pennant along with foreign stars Billy Mehmet and Jordan Webb, the Stags have a strong unit with the likes of former U17 Croatia captain Ivan Dzoni and Japanese winger Ryutaro Megumi as both the forwards scored goals in the friendlies, according to ESPN.

Our Stags had a training session today to prepare for our game against Global FC on Tuesday for the AFC Champions League in Manila.

A win on Tuesday will see them travelling to Australia for their ACL round two clash against Brisbane Roar and further progress will mean they will face China's big-spending Shanghai Shenhua, who recently signed Carlos Tevez.

Tampines are in the AFC Champions League play-off season for the second time. Last year, they lost their preliminary stage clash against India's Mohun Bagan but are looking good to head to Brisbane this time. The addition of Singapore internationals Khairul Amri, Madhu Mohana and South Korean midfielder Son Yong Chan will boost their chances.

Also Nawaz's unit, who have represented Singapore at the AFC Cup four times, have the experience of playing at the continental level more when compared to Global, who are the first team for Philippines to participate in the continent's first-tier club competition.

Global , who suffered a group stage exit at the 2015 AFC Cup, earned their berth in the ACL preliminary stage after winning their third United Football League title in 2016. Notably, they also won the United Football League title after beating Filipino giants Ceres Negros.
