Overview
Ng Ka Long made light work of Indonesia shuttler Anthony Ginting in the semi-final of the ongoing Grand Prix Gold tournament in Malaysia. The top seed needed just 42 minutes to defeat the 20-year-old in straight games 21-18, 21-15.
The 22-year-old ended 2016 on a high by making it to the Dubai World Superseries Finals after he won his maiden Superseries at home at the Hong Kong Open. Ng will be determined to clinch the title in his season-opening campaign.
Except for his quarter-final clash, which went to the deciding game against Indonesian teenager Jonatan Christie, Ng has had an easy passage in the tournament, demolishing his opponents in straight games. However, he will be up for a stiff test against a familiar foe in Lee Hyun II in the title clash on Sunday.
Notably, the two shuttlers have met thrice earlier and Ng has finished on the losing side on all those occasion. The latest meeting came at the 2016 French Open semi-final, in which the 36-year-old South Korean decimated Ng in straight games, 21-17, 21-15 before losing to China's Shi Yuqi in the final.
Lee also had a good year in 2016, winning titles in the United States and Thailand and making ito the final stages of Superseries tournaments. The world number 18's experience will come in handy in the big clash at Sibu on Sunday but he has to be at his best to stop the in-form Ng and maintain his perfect record against the Hong Kong shuttler.
