Overview

Sir Andy Murray heads into the season's first Grand Slam on the back of some career-high performances in 2016, in which he dethroned Novak Djokovic to claim the top spot in the Men's singles career.

The Brit's next target would likely be getting the monkey off the back in Australia, where he has faced defeats in five finals, out of which four have come against Djokovic, against whom he also lost the Qatar Open final earlier this month. However, motivated by the success and top spot he has claimed in the last year, the 29-year-old believes that he can clinch his maiden title at the Australian Open.

"I obviously feel pretty confident after the way that last season finished. I do love it here. I love the conditions, I have played really well here over the years, and just haven't managed to obviously get over the final hurdle," Murray said, as quoted by Australian Open's official website.

"But, yeah, I think I am in a decent position, for sure, to do it. I think I have a chance to win here."

Murray is likely to face either Kei Nishikori or Roger Federer in the last-eight round of the tournament but he will face Ukraine's Illya Marchenko on Monday morning. Notably, the world number 95 has not been in good form, losing three back-to-back matches and also has won only two of last 10 outings.

The two men have met only once in their career earlier when they came head-to-head at the 2011 Australian Open second round. It was Murray who took the match in straight sets and the Brit is likely to come up with another dominant performance to begin his year.
