Singapore goalkeeper Hassan Sunny has revealed he will try and get back to Thailand in 2018 after he completes his one-year term with his new S.League club Home United.
The Protectors announced on Friday that they have secured the services of the Singapore's first-choice custodian, who is returning to the local league after a two-year stint with recently-relegated Thai Premier League side Army United. The 32-year-old was released with a year left in his contract with the Thai club as it slipped to second-tier league for 2017.
Hassan, who had an impressive stint with the Lions in their dismal AFF Suzuki Cup campaign in 2016, was in the radar of Home, who have signed quite a few big names to add firepower to the squad in a bid to bring back the league title after 13 years.
Shortly after signing the deal with the Protectors, Hassan reiterated his interest of playing in Thai Premier League (PLT) and make use of the Asean slot, which will allow players from the Southeast Asian region to ply their trade in the first-tier league from 2018. The Lions custodian also revealed why he chose Home over other S.League sides.
"A return to the Thai league is a possibility that I'll consider next year, especially given that their foreign player quota is going to change," Hassan said, as quoted by Today Online.
"I have already met a few people from my previous club, and they said they'll try to help me find a team in Thailand next year. In the meantime, I will just be focused on keeping my performances at a high level this season.
"There are several reasons why I signed for Home, and one of it was because I found the club to be very professionally run. They have top facilities, good coaches and they were able to agree to the terms that I was looking for.
"I hope I can contribute something to put Home where they belong, which is at the top."
