Overview

Adelaide Strikers have not had a good start to the ongoing Big Bash League (BBL) season and the last year's semi-finalists are reeling at the second last spot with one win from four games.

Brad Hodge's men must buckle up as early as possible if they are thinking about making past the group stages of the tournament. They return to Adelaide Oval days after they were thrashed by Hobart Hurricanes on the road.

The hosts would be eyeing for revenge on Friday and there is no better motivation to add two crucial points to their tally. A defeat would see them join defending champions Sydney Thunder at the bottom of the table but a win will keep them in the hunt.

While Ben Dunk and Brad Hodge have been amongst the runs, Strikers have been let down by all-rounders Kieron Pollard and Chris Jordan, who have failed with both the ball and bat so far. The West Indies Twenty20 specialist has scored only 45 runs from four matches so far and a big one is due from the big man.

On the other hand, the Hurricanes have been benefitted from their openers Tim Paine and D'Arcy Short, both of whom are among the top run-scorers this season. The presence of Kumar Sangakkara and George Bailey in the middle order is a good boost for the side, who have been a bit inconsistent so far.

Sitting at the fifth spot with two wins from four matches, Hurricanes will break into the top four if they manage a win today. The bowling form of all-rounder Dan Christian, who picked up a five-for on Monday, is a positive sign as well. Skipper Paine though would want their English export Stuart Broad, who has been conceding aplenty, to step up and contribute with the ball.
