Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson has explained how his side's victory over Manchester United have lifted the mood in the dressing room and suggested that the Reds' have gathered momentum.
Jurgen Kloop's side registered a comfortable 2-0 victory over the Red Devils in the first leg of the Europa League at Anfield on Thursday. This was prior to a crushing victory over Manchester City, followed by a 2-1 comeback win over Crystal Palace, where the Merseyside club were reduced to 10-men.
The England international has set his sights on extending Liverpool's momentum as he believes it will be crucial for the next season.
"Momentum is a big thing in football and it feels like we've finally got that now," Henderson explained, as quoted by the Liverpool Echo.
"It's really gathered over the past couple of weeks and now we need to keep building on that. If we keep putting in performances like that then the results will follow.
"You can see the confidence in the team. We're performing well and we've had some good results of late. That's given everyone a boost.
"It was such a big game against United and to play the way we did was very pleasing. When we play that kind of high intensity football and win the ball back like that there aren't many teams who can live with us.
"We need to keep trying to improve. We all want to finish the season off well and that will put us in good stead for next season."
Henderson also was in full praise of the Liverpool supporters who were in attendance at Anfield for United clash.
"The fans were brilliant and that really spurred us on. We started the game really well and kept it going. We finished very strongly. We'll take a lot of confidence from that," he explained.
"We could have scored a few more. We created a lot of chances. David de Gea made some great saves but overall we have to be pleased with both the result and the performance. We'll take that and move into the second leg."
