A massive drug racket has been busted and 14 people, including the gang leader, have been arrested and a total of about 27kg of heroin has been seized by officials in a joint operation carried out by The Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB) and its Malaysian counterpart, Narcotics Crime Investigation Department (NCID).
It was also reported that cash amounting to about RM$290,000 was also retrieved from the gang during the raid that was carried on 2 December. "The successful operation to arrest the 30-year old Malaysian male was a result of the close co-operation between NCID and the CNB, to share intelligence and to collaborate and co-ordinate operations to smash trans-border drug syndicates," said the CNB in an official statement.
The Channel News Asia reported that NCID received the tip-off from CNB about the drugs supplier who was believed to be involved in supplying heroin to Singapore, following which the authority carried out the raid into the drug racket of the Malaysian drug supplier who was based in Johor. The police have detained the gang leader and 14 other people who were believed to be working under him.
CNB also said in the statement, "Through CNB's investigations, it was found that the 30-year old Malaysian drug supplier was believed to be involved in the supplying of heroin to local drug traffickers... In conjunction with the operation conducted by NCID, CNB also conducted two operations on Dec 1 and Dec 2, 2016 which resulted in the arrest of three local drug traffickers and seizing a total of about 3kg of heroin."
Ng Ser Song, Director of CNB, expressed his concern about the increasing use and consumption of drug in the Southeast Asian countries and said that they will not leave any stone unturned in the fight against narcotics' abuse, "The fight against drugs is getting more complex by the day. However, with NCID's close and firm support, we are confident of continuing the good fight against the drug scourge, which continues to inflict untold harm upon society," said Song, as reported by the news website.
