Thailand coach Kiatisuk Senamuang has backed Chanathip Songkrasin to shine in J-League, if he decides to leave Thai League outfit Muangthong United and make a switch to Japan.
The War Elephants have sealed a berth in the last four of the ongoing AFF Suzuki Cup, where they take on Myanmar in the semi-final clash. Songkrasin, also known as "Jay" has been one of the standout players for Muangthong and the national side.
Songkrasin's form has seen him attract interest from Japan, with J-League outfits FC Tokyo and Consadole Sapporo reportedly keen on bringing him to the country. Senamuang, who has played for Thailand national team is popularly known as "Zico."
He has backed his compatriot Songkrasin to become a success in J-League as he believes a move overseas will benefit the player. In addition to this, he has encouraged more players to make a switch abroad.
"He can be a success in Japan. He is an excellent player," Senamuang told FourFourTwo.
"He has the skill, the technique and the confidence to do a good job in Japan or anywhere. He is still young enough and will have the opportunity to learn and improve as a player and this is the most important thing."
"If you play overseas, it helps your mentality because nobody supports you. You can learn from the people you meet there, coaches and players. You have to be professional. You know what you need to do, you know how to eat, train, sleep – these are all important things. In Thailand, there is so much support. You are like a baby all the time."
