Overview
Lewis Hamilton has taken the pole position for the 2016 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix by setting the pace in the season's final qualifying race at the Yas Marina Circuit on Saturday.
The Brit comfortably edged out his teammate Nico Rosberg by just 0.303s to take the 12th pole of this season. With the Formula One driver's championship at stake, the battle between the top two Mercedes drivers has become the talking point of the final race of the season.
Hamilton, who trials Rosberg, in the driver's standings by 12 points needs nothing less than a finish at the top step of the podium to keep his chances of retaining the title alive. On the other hand, the German driver just needs a third-place finish to clinch his maiden title.

The momentum though is with Hamilton, who has won the last three races of the season - in Brazil, Mexico and the United States. Also, the 31-year-old has won two titles in Abu Dhabi, one more than Rosberg, who won the race last year.
Hamilton is all pumped up ahead of the final race of the season and says that he is not willing to give up despite the tough situation he finds himself in.
"I cannot and will not give up. You never know what might happen - however unlikely it may seem. I do not go into the race expecting anything less than a fair fight," Hamilton said, as quoted by The Telegraph.
Red Bull's Daniel Ricciardo, who is among the only two racers who have manage to break Hamilton-Rosberg domination and win a title in Malaysia, will start the race from the second row of the grid after finishing nearly a second slower than the leader. Joining him will be Ferrari's Kimi Raikkonen.
Ferrari-Red Bull combination of Sebastian Vettel and Max Verstappen will start from the third row of the grid. Force India's Nico Hulkenberg and Sergio Perez finished seventh and eighth, respectively in the qualifying on Saturday.
