Overview
PV Sindhu takes on local hope Cheung Ngan Yi in the Women's singles semi-final of 2016 Hong Kong Open badminton in Kowloon on 26 November. Sindhu is fresh from her China Open success, which was also her maiden Superseries title. The Rio Olympic silver medallist has also booked her place in the World Superseries Finals in Dubai next month edging past her compatriot Saina Nehwal, who went down to Cheung in the quarter-final on Friday.

The world number nine has also played a marathon quarter-final against Singapore's Xiayou Liang, which took an hour and 19 minutes with Sindhu winning the match after being taken to the decider.
Sindhu stuttered in the second game and conceded it 23-21 and even trailed her opponent 15-9 in the decider only to make a strong comeback and clinched four straight points from 17 to close it 21-18. While conceding she was nervous, the Indian shuttler gave credit to her opponent for a fighting effort.
"I was very nervous. I was not confident with my shots; even when I played safe, they were going out, I did not know what to play. After I got a few points I became confident. Liang Xiaoyu has improved a lot," Sindhu said , as quoted by BWF offical website.
A few tough outings in the early rounds will give Sindhu the confidence to peak during the business end of the tournament.
Cheung, on the other hand, disposed off fifth seed Saina Nehwal in a 71-minute, three-game battle. The 26th-ranked local shuttler has been inconsistent in the recent past but would want to make use of a good opportunity to make her mark at home.
Sindhu holds a 2-0 head-to-head advantage over her Hong Kong opponent but Cheung's coach Wang Chen believes that the pressure is on the Indian shuttler.
"The pressure is definitely on Sindhu because of her achievements at the Olympics so Cheung has nothing to lose," Chen was quoted as saying by the South China Morning Post.
