A 5.3 magnitude earthquake shook eastern Japan on Thursday, but there were no immediate reports of any damage or injury.
The Japan Meteorological Agency said the epicentre of the quake that occurred at 11.50 am was in Chiba prefecture, located to the east of Tokyo.
The agency said the earthquake did not trigger any tsunami alert.
Japan is located at the junction of four tectonic plates and earthquakes are quite common in the country. The country sits on one of the world's most seismically active zones.
According to reports, Japan accounts for about 20 percent of the world's earthquakes of magnitude-6 or greater.
