Overview

After a pulsating week in China, badminton action shifts to $400,000 Superseries event in Hong Kong, starting 22 November, featuring Rio Olympics winner Carolina Marin and runner-up PV Sindhu. The men's draw features the likes of Olympics winner Chen Long and Jan O Jorgensen.

Carolina Marin enters the five-day competition, to be held at Hong Kong Coliseum in Kowloon, as the Women's singles defending champion and she would want to finish the year with a Superseries title and also end a barren run, which began after her Rio Olympic gold medal.

Rio silver medallist PV Sindhu will target the top step of the podium to build on her China Open success, which was also her maiden Superseries title. A good show will guarantee the Indian star a place at the Dubai World Superseries Finals in December.

Indonesian star Ratchanok Intanon, who has had disappointing results in the later half of 2016, will want to head to Dubai with a strong boost, while London Olympic bronze medallist, who has recovered from an injury, would want to slowly claw back to the top.

In the Men's singles top seed Lee Chong Wei has pulled out of the tournament with a hamstring injury. In his absence Chen Long, the highest-ranked player, will want to make amends for his China Open defeat. Jan O Jorgensen, fresh from his recent success, will look to continue his winning run in Kowloon.

Focus will also be on the Chinese shuttlers as China Open, for the first time in the 30-year-history of the tournament, saw local players return empty-handed.
