Overview

Brazil will host Argentina in the South American leg of 2018 Fifa World Cup Qualifier at the Estadio Mineirao on 10 November.

The two teams have had completely contrasting qualifying campaigns under their new coaches. Brazil, since winning the Rio Olympics football gold medal, have gone on to win four consecutive matches under Tite.

Tite's men have also scored 12 goals and maintained three clean sheets to top the group with 21 points from 10 games. However, Thursday's clash will be a stern test for the 55-year-old tactician against Argentina, despite the La Albiceleste' recent form.

For Brazil, a lot will depend on their in-form forward Gabriel Jesus, who is the team's top-scorer in the qualifying tournament with four goals. Neymar, who has been suffering a goal-drought in his last four appearances, is expected to raise his game when he meets his Barcelona teammate Lionel Messi on the pitch.

Liverpool pairing of Felipe Coutinho and Roberto Firmino along with Chelsea star Willian would be key to Brazil's chances given their Premier League form.

On the other hand, Argentina have had a woeful run under new coach Edgardo Bauza as his side have slipped below the qualification rank to sixth in the South American group.

Bauza's side have won only of their last four outings and have also suffered a 1-0 loss to Paraguay in their last World Cup qualifying clash in October.

Injury woes to Messi have also not helped the Argentina side, that is looking over-reliant on their Barcelona star. In the absence of the 29-year-old against Paraguay, Manchester City's Sergio Aguero missed a crucial penalty that cost them the game.

A fit-again Messi, who also netted a crucial goal in Barcelona's 1-0 win against Sevilla on Sunday, has an enormous task in hand against the in-form Brazilian side, who are returning to Estadio Mineirao for the first time since their humiliating 7-1 defeat to Germany in the 2014 World Cup.
