India vanquished Bangladesh for eight wickets to lift the Asia Cup, winning a grudge match against the home side whose fans raised the stakes by launching viral mockery of the visitors.

India's opener Shikhar Dhawan hit half-century to establish a 94-run stand with Virat Kohli that won the match and the cup for India.

In a Twenty20 match reduced to 15 overs a side following bad weather, Indian captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni chose to bat after winning the toss.

India lost opener Rohit early as they set out to chase Bangaldesh's of total of 120-5.

India were unbeaten in the tournament after winning all four matches in early rounds, including a victory over Bangladesh in the first match.

Bangladesh reached the final after registering victories over Pakistan, Sri Lanka and the United Arab Emirates.
